    He made the gods mad.

    Explanation:

He provoked the wrath of Poseidon and Helios. During his journey, him and his crew ended up landing on an island inhabited by giant cyclopses. One of them is Poseidon's son, Polyphemus, and Polyphemus captures Odysseus and his crew and eats a lot of Odysseus' men. Odysseus then drugs Polyphemus, blinds him, and sneaks off the island with the remaining crew members. Polyphemus asked for Poseidon, his father, to punish Odysseus. Poseidon proceeds to make Odysseus' journey home a lot longer and a lot harder. Later on, Odysseus and his crew kill and eat Helios' cattle and his entire crew is killed. Then he lands on the island of Ogygia, where Calypso keeps him for 7 years before Zeus tells her to let him go.
