When Captain Anthony dies in Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, why does Douglass return to the plantation where he spent his childhood?

Douglass was living in Baltimore at this time, but he is forced to return to the plantation as he is still considered one of Captain Anthony's possessions. These possessions are going to be divided among all of Captain Anthony's children. Douglass comes back in order to be valuated. Douglass is left to Ms. Lucretia, and is able to go back to Baltimore.
