The fragmented perception of time in "The Brown Chest" by John Updike was really fascinating. The narration of the whole story from how and when it begun, to how it ended, in which, they opened the brown chest and cherished what was inside, is like a narration of Updike's personal experience, I must say. The effect of the structure as the story goes was okay for the readers since it takes one step at a time.
