    Water plays a very important role on the economic activities of Northwestern Europe. Water is needed for farming because Northwestern Europe is known for its fertile soil, because it is covered by loess, a sediment that is left by glaciers. The rivers of Europe are used for transportation, trade, and recreation throughout the region. To name some, The Rhone River is a big source of Hydroelectric power. The Seine River carries most of Frances waterway traffic. The Rhine River connects many industrial cities to the port of Rotterdam at the North Sea.
