The sun is 93,000,000 million miles away from the earth. The gravitational pull is still strong enough to keep it in an orbit. The earth is constantly rotating and the moon is pulled on by the earth. Without the moon, the tides would be out of whack and there would be ocean in Illinois. (that was probably and exaggeration). The moon is revolving around the earth and changes phases
