Does the right to vote provide citizens influence over the government and elected officials?

    Yes, citizens have huge influence over who takes office. They vote and in many elections it is the only vote. However, in the presidential election the citizen's vote does not count directly. If it were for local office, say mayor, the people's vote would have complete influence over it.
