It was called the 1877 Commitment to an informal pact made in the United States in 1877 following the disputed presidential election of the previous year between Rutherford B. Hayes and Democrat Samuel J. Tilden. According to the "compromise," and after several polling station disputes over the election results, it was agreed to give Hayes the presidency, in exchange for his regime accepting certain demands from the Democratic Party led by Tilden.
