    Answer: At the beggining of the Civil War, the North had a huge industrial advantage, as well as having double the people living in their states. The North manufactured 97 percent of the country's firearms and 96 percent of its railroad locomotives. They also controlled the navy, which was crucial because they imported their gunpowder.
