Why did Aesop use animals instead of people in his stories?

    Animals, in his time, were "lesser" beings that were caricatures of the personality traits they represented in his story. By using animals, he wouldn't offend people who would identify with that type of (negative), trait it represented. It was a strategy used during his time to prevent political upheaval.
