Why does british refer to the uk when northern ireland isnt a part of britain?

    Since northern Ireland is part of the UK but is stated separately is because Scotland, wales and Cornwall are all considered to be a unit under the British (England) while northern Ireland is just a jurisdiction where England holds power not a unit under England
