    Espionage and sedition acts of World war 1 were the first forays into federal regulation of first amendment rights. The sedition act of 1981 was an act of the United States Congress that extended the Espionage Act of1917 to cover a wide range of offenses. It forbade the use of abusive language about the United States government.
