Why would southern states support new states entering as slave states

A lot of dem like missions Utah Ohio and lake mt vets

Southern states supported the idea of slavery, and since they weren't as industrialized as the northern side of American they relied on plantations for their income therefore needing slaves since they didn't want to do the work on their own
