    In Furman versus Georgia (1972), the Supreme Court ruled in William Furman's favor, saying that Georgia had established unclear rules as far as giving death penalty to people. Furman claimed in front of the Supreme Court that the death sentence given to him was not only cruel but also unusual. The Supreme Court did rule in favor of Furman.
