The economy and social characteristics of New England and the Southern colonies were very different mostly due to their history and how they were established.

    Explanation:

New England was settled by religious reformers and by separatists. These people had a completely different vision of what they wanted to make of their new home.

Also due to the location and background of these migrants, many of them were educated and skilled craftsmen.

The Southern States, in contrast were founded as business ventures by local as well as international backers. The aim was to utilize and exploit local resources for maximum benefits.

Since the New World has lots of natural resources, the Southern States had a deep rooted agriculture tradition which stayed with it for generations.
