In 330 CE Emperor Constantine declared the city of Nova Roma (informally: Constantinople) to be the new capital of the Roman Empire ... After 480 CE, the West was reabsorbed into the Eastern Empire under Zeno, at which time Constantinople ruled all of Rome again.
