    a) In the mid-nineteenth century, Western powers forced China to grant them trade rights, especially after the Opium Wars. They forced the Chinese Government to conclude "unfair" arms-force treaties.

    b) By the first decade of the twentieth century, there was great resentment against the rule of Porfirio Díaz and a faction of the Mexican population wanted him out of power. He finally resigned and went into exile in 1911.

    c) The Qing or Manchu dynasty was the last of royal dynasties in China, reigning from 1644 until their last ruler was abdicated during the Chinese Revolution (1911-19212), and created a republic.

    d) Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels have inspired numerous political groups which eventually led to the Russian Revolution (first the Social Revolutionaries in February-March 1917 and, lastly, the Bolsheviks in October-November 1917.
