The major reason for war was the trade restrictions placed on US by UK, due to the war between France and UK, As UK didn't want US to trade with France it captured US trade vessels and forced the American sailors to join the Royal navy. The first step taken by US in war of 1812 was by General William Hull when he entered Canada and surrendered Fort Michilmackinac. Later in July 1812 it surrendered to General Isaac Brock at Detroit.
