Why are rights not absolute?

    Because if rights are absolute, then they might have the tendency to stomp over the rights of other people. Take the freedom of speech for example.

    When rights are absolute, it becomes easy to abuse them. For example, freedom of speech usually predominates over other desires, but slander and libel are not protected under freedom of speech.
