What was the renaissance a rebirth of?

The Renaissance, meaning rebirth in French, was a rediscovery of classical literature, art, and philosophy. During the time of the renaissance, many old Greek and Roman ideas about philosophy were reincorporated into the thought of the thinkers of that time. Art saw new inspiration and flourished and a great many books were written.
