    Indeed so: it ranges from the arctic in the far north, to near-tropical swamp lands towards the south. In other parts, rainfall is sufficiently low as for the region be classed as a desert. These factors, and topography cause the temperature to range to the extremes, and for the wind regimes to similarly range widely.
