What factor led to the decision to hold were crimes trials in Nuremberg Germany

The Nazi top criminals were judged in Nuremberg after the end of WWII because in that city, 10 years earlier, the Nazis had promulgated the Nuremberg Laws. Those were the acts that provided the basis for the racial, social exclusion and persecution of Jews in Germany. German citizens were prohibited to marry Jews, the Nuremberg laws defined Jewishness by race, not by belief. That's why taking the Nazi leaders to trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Nuremberg had a highly symbolic value.
