The main difference can be reflected in the settlement of new immigrants in the North region after slavery dropping significantly the agricultural production in this place from a 70% to a 40% only.

    Explanation:

The Northern area was prominent for having really good transportation means, specially because of the railroad. Another important fact that the North had to offer to the population in general was a great educational system in the medical, business and engineering fields.

On the other side, the Southern region was characteristic due to the fact that they had proper weather conditions and agricultural resources for the production in the rural areas, in which the production of tobacco and cotton were some of the most profitable activities in the region.
