Why would a portolan map be inappropriate as a resource for a geography class?

    I think you mean "portolan'' map. These are historical maps of coastlines, showing all the ports. They were used by early sea - going traders to move from port. But they weren't accurate in their depiction of the shape of the coasts and didn't show anything inland, so they wouldn't be much use to a geography class
