The triangle of trade sent slaves from Africa to the American continent, where they worked in agricultural production. Tobacco, sugar and cotton produced was shipped to Europe, and Europe trade textiles, rum and manufactured goods in Africa.

The agricultural economy of plantation life in the New World depended heavily on slave labor in order to function. This affected the southern states in the American colonies particularly.
