A paramecium is a living form of the group of unicellular ciliates. They inhabit fresh waters such as lakes and ponds. Due to the abundance of organic material, which is the source necessary for these organisms to survive.

Distilled water is purified water that has had all of its minerals removed. If a Paramecium would be placed in distilled water, it will rapidly die, as there is a lack of organic material in distilled water.
