    Mauritania was the last country to emancipate slaves and slavery.

    Explanation: In 1905 slavery had came to an end by the declaration of the colonial French government. Despite the declaration it was not applied completely as it was deeply rooted to the African culture. But in 1981 it was completely abolished by a presidential order in Mauritania. However no criminal law was passed to enforce the order. But officially Mauritania became the last country to emancipate slaves.
