Why did people migrate away from the Sahel around 4,000 years ago

    Approximately 4,000 years ago the climate of the Sahel became extremely dry which resultedly caused the shrinking of the rivers and desertification. Obviously, this region was no longer favourable for farming and harvesting, so people who lived on those territories were forced to migrate to the more humid territories of West Africa.
