Why was Lincoln's 1860 election seen as a threat by southerners?

    He was a threat to slavery which were the main producers of the south, there wasn't much industry in the south so plantation owners depended on slaves for their money

    Many Southerners believed that his election was unconstitutional as free blacks in the North were allowed to vote for him.
