One reason for Japan's involvement in the first Sino-Japanese War and the annexation of Korea was Japane's 1. pursuit of imperialistic goals. Japan had been industrializing for the bulk of the 20th century prior to these invasions; however, the Japanese mainland was very resource-poor. In order to ensure the constant access to raw materials necessary for industrialization, Japan invaded China and Korea.
