In 1916 Woodrwo Wilson ordered general John J Pershing to lead U. S. troops into mexico to capture Pancho Villa who was a Mexican revolutionary. This was a retaliation attack as Villa had attacked the town of Columbus, New Mexico, which is now one of the events which is most remembered in the Border War between the United States and Mexico. However, Pershing was unable to capture Villa although he defeated the majority of Villa's troops.
