Lin sees the Chinese as exhibiting many quality items that are of really important for other countries who import it. They identify the imported goods as low quality "playthings", which could just be "easily dispensed without causing any ill effect". They also see that the English motive for trade, specifically for the opium trade, to be focusing more on pro fit and not on the mutual benefits of all parties. He also believes that the "products that come from China are useful, the food are g ood and are very easy to sell".
