Why do you think many preachers of the second great awakening supported the temperance and abolitionist movement?

In my own opinion, regarding my readings in some credible source, the reason why the best-known preacher of the second great awakening Charles Grandison Finney supported the temperance and abolitionist movement is that it is God's will to save the people and this movement thought that the salvation is possible on the good works.
