Famine and malnutrition were so widespread in Democratic Republic of Congo in the 1990s and 2000s because of a corrupt government that lets its people suffer and also does not care about their well being. The taxes collected are stolen by the corrupt officials and they are never put to use for the people of the country. This country is dependent on mining and this has been one major reason behind the famine and malnutrition.
