    Washington attacked Trenton because had had obtained information from a spy that the soldiers there would be caught off-gaurd. The main result of the attack was a sweeping victory for the Washington's forces, with minimal losses and huge losses for the enemy. This was crucial because it brought a much-needed boost of moral for the Continental Army and boosted enlistments.
