    This took place under President Ronald Reagan during the 1980's. Due to his anti-communist policies, Reagan wanted to overthrow communist governments wherever possible. This is why Reagan ends up supporting the Contras, as they were trying to overthrow a communist government in Nicaragua. All of the aforementioned actions were driven by Reagan's determination to get rid of communism.
