The Battle of Salamis was a naval battle. It took place in the year of 480 BC. The battle was between the unified Greek city-states, with Athens as the leading force, and with Themistocles as their leader, and the Persian Empire with the King Xerxes as their leader.

The Persians outnumbered the Greeks by far, and that turned out to be the most decisive thing in the outcome of the battle.

The battle ended with a win of the Persian fleet, while the Greek city-states lost, and the most damaged was Athens, both in reputation and casualties.
