    He hesitated for a long time, possibly because his partially inaccurate calculations of the orbits based on Aristotle's idea - the circle as an ideally harmonious-perfect mathematical structure - could not be supported by observations; therefore a rejection by the scientific or church establishment was to be feared.

    Contrary to popular belief, the propagation of the heliocentric view of the world was not viewed as heresy during his lifetime, but at best as a web of imagination. After all, the geocentric system, anchored in the scientifically undisputed reference sizes Ptolemy and Aristotle, also seemed to agree much better with common sense than a moving earth
