    Edward wanted their consent for new taxes to fund his military campaigns. The knights and burgesses together made up a new group in Parliament called the Commons. The Commons was a body of "commoners" (non-nobles) in Parliament ... About 50 barons, other nobles, archbishops, and bishops met in the House of Lords.
