What made an allied invasion of Europe impossible in 1942?

1) North Africa was more strategically important

2) the German grip on Europe was too strong

3) Britain was too weak to participate at that time.

    I'd say it is 2) The German grip on Europe was too strong. The Allied Forces had a tough time at the beginning of the war, and I'm sure it was harder for them to invade Europe when Germany's power was large.
