    To strengthen the monarchy, Louis XIV applied the strategies of Richelieu. He extended the government and selected intendants, royal administrators who collected taxes, hired soldiers and brought out his policies in the areas.

    Policies of Richelieu:

    He decreased the authority of local nobles, who controlled much of France. He built up the French soldiery utilizing it to overcome nobles' armies. He improved the French administration and managed to develop the French economics. He also organized the government and sought to control the power of the nobles.
