This is the first year Janis is playing softball. She has been practicing her batting. On her last swing the bat made an arc with a radius of 48 inches and swept through 255° of rotation. Assuming the arc is circular, what is the distance the tip of the bat travels to the nearest inch? How many feet is this rounded to the nearest foot?

    a) 214 in

    b) 18 feet

    Explanation:

    Arc length formula = 2πr*∅/360°

    Given r = 48 in and ∅=255° then

    Arc length = 2*3.14*48*255°/360° = 213.62 = 214 in

Changing inches to feet, you divide inch value by 12

    214/12 = 17.80 = 18 feet
