M. Robespierre was a brilliant lawyer that had advocated the revolutionary action that brought down the monarchy in France and the establishment of a republic. He was also the main figure of the Reign of Terror, as he controlled the National Assembly for some time, the main political and legislative body of the era. In the end, he was accused of wrongdoing, jailed, tried and guillotined just as many of the victims of his terror.
