Japan followed up by occupying Cam Ranh naval base, 800 miles from the Philippines, where Americans had troops, and the British base at Singapore.

    As a response to Japan's invasion of French Indochina, the United States "D. froze all of Japan's financial assets in the United States," since it was thought that this would put enough pressure on the Japanese to release their "grip" on the region.
