Banneker uses allusions by making reference to the Declaration of Independence and Bible to argue against slavery. Banneker refers to the Declaration of Independence to prove slavery is unconstitutional. Banneker also uses repetition to keep a respectful tone throughout his letter by repeating "sir" before each addition to his arguments.
