During World War II, the US and Soviet Union were allies. After the War the two countries came into conflict. What were the causes of this conflict? How did the two countries view each other?

    The wartime alliance and positive feelings about it were over in 1946-1947. It became obvious the Soviets would establish a firmer domination of Eastern Europe through local communist and united front forces. They came to view themselves as rivals. In an Europe ravaged by the war, the only force that could oppose Soviet expansion and maneuvering was the United States of America.
