The principle of limited government states that the government cannot interfere in all aspects of the citizens' lives. It also cannot make any decisions it wants, or be involved in any aspect of society that it wants to be involved in. Instead, the intervention of government needs to follow certain rules and respect certain boundaries.

This is closely related to the guarantee of personal freedom of the Constitution. One of the freedoms that people have is that of being free from government intervention. By placing controls on the government, people are more able to enjoy their lives in an unrestricted way.
