    The Paleolithic - the Stone Age is divided into three groups, the Palaeolithic (old Stone Age), with a primarily hunter-gatherer society. The Mesolithic is the middle Stone Age, defined by the beginning of more settled dwelling and the taming and exploitation for food. The Neolithic or new Stone Age is marked by the beginning of settled agriculture and cultivation for food.
