Answer: C. Five Canadian lift locks were constructed.

The St. Lawrence Seaway is the system of locks, canals and channels linking the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River with the Atlantic Ocean.

The construction began as early as 1783, however, it was between the years 1913 and 1932 that the Welland Canal was rebuilt. The U. S. was hesitant about entering the project. However, a Canadian threat in 1951 finally secured its agreement in 1954.

Seven locks were constructed, five of which are located within Canadian territory. The project deepened navigation channels to a depth of 8.2 m. The Montreal-Lake Ontario seaway, which is often thought of as the whole seaway, lifts a westbound vessel about 69 m.
