What were the roots of Jefferson's conflict with the federal court system, and how did the case of Marbury v. Madison fit into the controversy?

    Jefferson's main issue with the federal court system was that it was too powerful, since he favored states' rights over the federal government. Marbury v. Madison fit in because it established "judicial review" which meant the court could deem laws unconstitutional.
