The First Battle of Bull Run, also called as Battle of Manassas, took place in 1861, in between the Union Army and the Confederate troops.

By the end of the battle, although they had won, the Confederate troops were highly disorganized and exhausted. If they continued to attack, they would have suffered high losses.

Both the parties had underestimated each other and the Confederate army thought that a victory at the battlefield would be enough reason for the North to give up and form Confederate States of America.

Although, the Confederate commanders did want to continue the battle, they were over-ruled by the higher authorities.
